I trained as an accountant and now run delivery. Ten years of Canadian books, closes and audit work, then IFRS 15 and 16 through a run of corporate acquisitions, and now technical project management for a data analytics and AI consultancy. Trained in accounting. Working in delivery.

A close and a release are the same problem
I started inside the Canada Revenue Agency in 2014, testing controls over financial reporting. Then eight years of Ottawa public practice and self-employment: assurance planning, full-cycle bookkeeping, personal and corporate returns. Then corporate finance at Harris Computer, carrying IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 compliance through acquisitions and closing the books for multiple business units.
In 2025 I moved into delivery. The switch reads as a career change and mostly is not one. A month-end close and a software release are the same problem: a cut-off, a dependency-ordered checklist, two records that have to agree, an independent review and a date that does not move. I had been running releases for years and calling them closes.
What I do now is own delivery end to end for a consultancy's client portfolio, from scoping through QA and deployment. Migrations, analytics infrastructure, reporting people can actually defend. The accounting habit that transferred best is the refusal to accept a number that only one system knows about.
